Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey explored multiperspectivalism and nonhuman embodiment, investigating what a bird’s perspective might be using image-based and sculptural aids.

In the autumn term of 2017, Maria McKinney invited Art School to work in partnership with 4th class teachers and students of St Mary’s National School, Maynooth.

Through a series of workshops, McKinney introduced students to thinking about ecology and balance within an environment, using her practice as the starting point. She asked them to consider and imagine what it would be like to experience an environment through the body of a bird. Through imagined aerial view mapmaking, and wearable claw prosthetics, McKinney guided students on how to put themselves into the position of a bird and how to imagine how birds might see us.
